MERIDEN -- Maloney High School in Meriden was the site of the CPTV Tip-Off Classic Tuesday night.
The first game of the night showcased two of the top point guards in the state as Tremont Waters of the Notre Dame-West Haven stood up against Jared Simmons and the Newington Indians. The Green Knights of Notre Dame pulled away in the second lead by Waters game 26 points to win 81-58.
In the second game the ladies took the court as the Mercy Tigers started the game on a 15-0 run against the Crusaders of Holy Cross. Crusaders had to work hard for every bucket as the Tigers looked effortless and crushed to a 58-37 victory.
In the final matchup the East Hartford Hornets took on the Cardinals of Greenwich. This would be a game of runs as the Cardinals started on an 11-0 run before the Hornets would counter to lead 31-28 at the half. The pace did not slow in the second frame either as East Hartford would build a eight advantage in the fourth quarter before Greenwich would fight back to tie the game. In the end East Hartford had just a little more as they survived the last Cardinal run to win 64-61.
