LOS ANGELES — The eccentric heir to a real estate fortune says he was high on methamphetamine during interviews he gave for a TV cable series.

Court papers were released Friday of a jailhouse interview Robert Durst had with Los Angeles prosecutors in March of 2015. Durst told them he was quote “on meth the whole time” during filming of the HBO series “The Jinx.”

He told prosecutors “it should have been obvious,” and “the reason I did it had to be because I was swooped.”

The mini-series delved into his ties to three deaths over decades.

His wife disappeared in 1982 and is presumed dead. A best friend was found shot to death execution-style in Beverly Hills in 2000. And a former Texas neighbor Durst admitted to killing – he says in self defense. Despite the admission, a jury acquitted Durst in that murder.

In the HBO series, Durst was caught during a break saying in a microphone “what the hell did I do?…Killed them all of course.”

In a court appearance last month, the 73-year-old in a wheelchair, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Susan Berman in Beverly Hills.

He is awaiting trial.

Near the end of the HBO series’ airing, Durst was arrested in New Orleans.

He’s currently serving a seven-year prison sentence for illegal possession of a 38-caliber revolver.
