PUTNAM — A Danielson man is facing several charges after police said he tried to kill someone early Thursday morning.

Around 12:38 a.m., State police were called to an apartment on Providence Road in Danielson. Police say Kenneth Griggs, 34, grabbed a woman in the home and threatened her while pointing a gun at her head. Then, another male in the house stepped in to help, and Griggs pointed the gun at him and pulled the trigger. Luckily for the man, the gun failed to fire.

Police say Griggs then tried to hide in a bedroom before running away. Troopers say they found him walking on the road and arrested him without incident.

During all of this, a 20-month old baby was sleeping in the nearby living room.

The gun involved in the incident was reported stolen out of Thompson in May 2012, police said. Griggs does not have a pistol permit.

He is charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm, risk of injury to a child, disorderly conduct –  violent threatening, stealing a firearm, criminal attempted manslaughter, criminal attempt assault, threatening in the first degree, reckless endangerment, and unlawful restraint.

Griggs is being held on $100,000 bond and is due in court later today.
