STAMFORD — The man who police said left his young daughter in a New York City train station has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his wife.

Elmer Gomez-Ruano was charged with murder in the death of Dionicia Cano Bautista and held on a $750,000 bond.  He is scheduled to be arraigned at the Stamford Superior Court on Friday.

On November 14, police were alerted to an abandoned 6-year-old in New York’s Port Authority train station . After talking to the little girl, Stamford police went to check on Bautista, the child’s mother, they found her dead in her apartment.

Police said Bautista had moved to the apartment the day before, and reunited with her husband. According to police, during the early morning hours, in a domestic argument, Gomez-Ruano killed Bautista.  Police said he then took their child on a train to New York where he abandoned her.

Elmer Gomez Ruono, 32, was taken into custody November 18 at a shelter in Brooklyn and has been held in custody since then.

The daughter is being cared for by a foster family according to police.
