NORTH HAVEN — A Christmas morning crash on I-91 in North Haven left one child seriously injured.

Police say a pickup truck with a snowplow attached was traveling southbound on I-91 around 8:35 a.m. when it slid into the center median. It rolled over numerous times and crossed into the northbound side of the highway before coming to a rest.

One child, a 6-year-old boy, was ejected and transported to Yale’s Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Two other kids got minor injuries as well, and the children’s 40-year-old mother, who was driving, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries too.

The North Haven Fire Department says that it seems the truck slid on black ice, leading it to flip.

Police say the Meriden woman and her two older children, ages 13 and 11, weren’t seriously injured because they were all wearing seatbelts. However, the 6-year-old boy wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, leading to his ejection.

That crash is also still under investigation and any witnesses are encouraged to contact Trooper Jon Poisson at Troop I in Bethany.
