HARTFORD -- Many people were out in the capital city celebrating First Night in Hartford. Many people said they do this every year.

"We like to come out here watch the fireworks we go home have some fondue dinner and then we watch the ball drop," said Chris Cofone, who has been coming to see the fireworks for the past 10 years.

Amanda Bellman brought her friends from Germany to see the fireworks at 6 p.m.

"It’s really special because in Germany at six pm they’re six hours ahead so it’s their new years at six so we’re here to celebrate their new years with them it’s exciting here in Hartford," Bellman said.

Mayor Luke Bronin said despite budget issues, he's glad to see Bushnell Park up and running.

"Everything you see tonight from the ice rink to the caroseoul to the entertainment all through the day to the fireworks is happening because of the generosity of private supporters the community coming together to make sure we keep a great Hartford tradition alive," Bronin said.
