MANCHESTER — Manchester Police are investigating after a multi-car collision sent several people to the hospital.

Police say around 12:12 Sunday morning, an accident occured near 276 Hartford Road.

Upon arrival, first responders found 3 vehicles were involved in the crash and all were heavily damaged.

Due to the damage, several occupants were extricated by Fire and EMS crews. They were then transported to Hartford Hospital, and St. Francis Hospital. All occupants are in stable condition and according to police, the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

During the investigation, Hartford Road was closed between Goslee Street and Pine Street for about 4 horus.

The driver of a Honda Accord involved in the crash, 24 year-old Quamel Smith of Hartford, was arrested and charged with drunk driving after failing several sobriety tests. A breathalyzer indiated his blood alcohol content was .200, more than twice the legal limit.

The initial investigation suggests impairment and excessive speed may have contributed to the crash.
