SOUTHINGTON -- Monday morning Southington police and fire officials received dozens of reports early from residents who were worried about loud noises and shaking houses.

The noises reported sound like explosions, according to residents and police, but there have been no reports of any damage.

Fire and police crews set out to investigate, and the local energy companies were contacted as well, but they couldn't find the origin.

The mysterious event occurred in the southwestern part of Southington, and Wolcott and Cheshire felt the repercussions as well.

First reports of the event came in at around 10:30 a.m., and in all about 30 to 40 calls came in to dispatch.

The New England Real-Time Earthquake Monitor at The Weston Observatory at Boston College showed no earthquake activity.

Police say they're unsure at this time what caused the explosion.
