BRANFORD – Branford police said a man held three people captive and assaulted them in a motel room.

Police arrested Christopher Pruitt, 37, of West Haven, and said he assaulted and held three people against their will on Saturday.

Police said they responded to a 911 hang-up call from a Motel 6 at 320 East Main Street at around 4 a.m. and found three men and two women in the motel room. At first, police were told that a minor dispute happened and they left the motel without taking any further action.

Police got a second call from an occupant in the room that Pruitt and his friend had entered the room uninvited, and robbed, assaulted and held the two woman and the man captive. The man who originally entered the room with Pruitt left so he wasn’t arrested.

Pruitt was charged with first-degree robbery, breach of peace, third-degree assault, second-degree threatening, interfering with a 911 call, second-degree strangulation, sixth-degree larceny, and three counts of first-degree unlawful restraint.

Pruitt is being held on a $100,000 bail and will be arraigned in New Haven Court on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
