NEW HAVEN -- The Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven was the site of a cross-town showdown between the Hillhouse Academics and the Panthers of Career Magnet High School.
The Panthers were the home team in this match up, and they acted like it from the start. Thanks to some long-range shooting they took an early lead and tied the game 11-11 less than a minute into the second quarter.
The Academics quickly started to play their game -- a game called the fast break -- as Hillhouse built a double-digit lead in a hurry. The Panthers refused to go away and would actually pull to within a bucket late in the fourth quarter.
Hillhouse however had just enough in the tank to hold for the 57-51 victory.
