2-year-old child in critical condition after being struck by car in New Haven

NEW HAVEN — Police are investigating after a 2 and a half-year-old girl was hit by a car Wednesday evening .

The crash happened at Dixwell Ave and Goffe Streets. New Haven Police said the child was struck while being pushed in a stroller by her mother across the street.  The baby was ejected from the stroller and landed in the street. The mother was not injured.

Police said a passing ambulance stopped to help and the EMTs began treating the baby and rushed her to the Yale new Haven Pediatric Hospital Emergency Department.

The child is in critical but stable condition according to police. The driver of the sedan, a 52-year-old resident of Woodbridge remained on the scene and is cooperating with police. So far, no charges have been filed.
