GREENWICH — The death of a baby girl during labor and delivery at Greenwich Hospital led to an investigation by the Connecticut Department of Public Health that revealed several violations of Connecticut State Regulations, according to the law firm representing a couple suing the hospital.

They said that as a result of the investigation, Greenwich Hospital has been required to implement new policies and procedures to address the importance of fetal monitoring.

Lauren Sorgen and her husband, Grant Gulyassy, the parents of the deceased child, filed a lawsuit that alleges, among other things, that the hospital and the obstetrician on-call at the time, Dr. Marjan Hedayatzadeh, failed to appropriately monitor their daughter’s heartbeat and, given the circumstances, failed to promptly deliver the baby by emergency C-section.  The couple claims that Greenwich Hospital’s failure to institute appropriate policies and procedures led to their baby’s death.

The incident happened in January of 2015.

The lawsuit seeks damages of more than $15,000.
