Early morning Wethersfield fire tears through home

WETHERSFIELD — The Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Department tackled a house fire in the early morning hours on Sunday.

Crews were dispatched to a home at 605 Nott Street around 3:07 a.m..

When firefighters arrived, they found the house heavily involved in fire with heavy smoke conditions throughout the house. Captain James Ritter confirms no one was in the house at the time.

Fire fighters initially went into the house for search and rescue, along with fighting the fire inside but found a collapsed floor and had to move all operations outside.

Captain James Ritter says they haven’t been able to shut off the gas due to accessibility issues but the gas company and fire command believe it’s safe for firefighters to continue their operations.

The fire is still active inside the walls and in concealed spaces of the house. Firefighters are working to extinguish those spots.

There has been a gofundme page set up to help the family.
