NEW BRITAIN — One person died and two others were rescued from a fiery crash late Sunday on Route 9 in New Britain.

Nicholas Formica, 52, of Bristol, died as a result of the crash.

State police said the car Formica was driving crossed the median from the south to the northbound lanes and hit a car driven by Daniel Conolly, 23, of Farmington and then came to a rest and burst into flames. Conolly and his passenger, Danielle Huscher, 25, of Simsbury, were pulled from their car, which had also started on fire, by Good Samaritans. Huscher and Conolly had serious injuries according to police and were taken to Hartford Hospital.

The state Department of Transportation said the accident happened on the northbound side of the highway near Exit 26 in New Britain.
