HAMDEN —  A minivan plunged into Lake Whitney, on White Street, in Hamden, just after 10 Thursday morning but the lone occupant was successfully rescued, after she was completely submerged.

One of the rescuers, Hamden firefighter Zachery Criscuolo, said it’s a good thing he had his water suit on before arriving at the scene so that he didn’t have to waste time suiting up as the van began sinking.

The van had crashed through a recently installed fence into the lake and Criscuolo said, when emergency crews arrived, she was not visible.

The woman was pulled from the water but there was no word on her injuries or on a cause of the accident.
