BRIDGEPORT -- The Bridgeport NAACP spoke out Thursday following the death of a 15-year-old. Jason Negron was shot and killed by a police officer Tuesday night.
"NAACP leadership will monitor ongoing investigation and community reporting for accuracy and timeliness as has been our role in recent police matters," they said in a statement.
Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez said 30-year-old Patrolman James Boulay was the officer who fatally shot Negron Tuesday.
Perez said Boulay has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a Connecticut State Police investigation. Perez said Boulay has no record of discipline as a member of the Bridgeport Police Department.
At the press conference, Greater Bridgeport NAACP President George Mintz was joined by Bridgeport Schools Superintendent Aresta Johnson and several community activists. All of them are focused on healing in the community and moving forward in a positive way.
Community Activist Imam Lyle Hassan Jones said, "If we're going to get this thing right as a community, we have to deal with us and we have to get our children right and we can't, at times, try to cover up when they're wrong."
Nancy Rios, the mother of Jayson’s girlfriend, told FOX61 she stays awake at night thinking of how the Bridgeport community can make a change for the betterment of the city’s youth.
“I think everyday about this like what can we actually do about this? If something’s not done, this is whats gonna keep happening. I fear for these kids. I really do fear for them.” said Rios, a single mother of four.
