ROCKY HILL — State Police are saying that two people from Middletown are dead after their car slammed into a tractor-trailer on I-91.

The accident happened around 11:30 p.m., on I-91 southbound near exit 24. The tractor-trailer was stopped in heavy traffic on I-91 due to a disabled vehicle, when a car driven by Jose Diana of Middletown collided with the truck at a high-rate of speed. The car then spun out of control and eventually came to a final rest in the right shoulder.

The passenger of the tractor-trailer was taken to Hartford Hospital. Jose Diana, 25, of Middletown, and Mark Nunez, 21, of Middletown, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

I-91 is back open now after being closed for 4 hours for the investigation. Police say they are still investigating the accident.
