WINDSOR — Police in Windsor are investigating a possible abduction Thursday morning.
Windsor police said at around 2:20 they went to Maple Avenue in Windsor for a report of an abduction of a woman who was taken from a home against her will by two men she knew.
They left in a vehicle with Mass. registration, so an APB was put out and Connecticut State Police said they had found the vehicle on I-91 on the Mass./Conn. border.
According to masslive.com, State police said they chased the vehicle into Springfield, Mass. where the suspect allegedly kicked two people out of the vehicle while traveling over the Memorial Bridge around 3 a.m. and then sped off, tossing a handgun out the window as well.
Less than half a mile away on Interstate 91 at Columbus Avenue and Emery Street, the suspect crashed the vehicle and took off on foot.
According to Springfield Police Capt. John Delaney, who spoke to masslive on Thursday morning, “an extensive ground search” conducted by Springfield and Connecticut and Massachusetts state police “failed to produce the operator of the vehicle,” who escaped on foot following the wreck.
Police did, however, detain and arrest a passenger of the vehicle on a default warrant, Delaney said.
“The vehicle in question was reported stolen from 81 Euclid Ave. (in Springfield),” Delaney said. “Windsor police responded to interview the (kidnapping victims) and recover the vehicle, and they will continue to investigate the crime.”
A Springfield resident found the ditched gun in the westbound lane of Memorial Bridge at 6:42 a.m. and turned it over to city police, Delaney added.
Police said the case is currently under investigation.
