FAIRFIELD--Police are searching for a suspect who they said was involved in a sexual assault incident that occurred on Jennings Beach Tuesday morning.

Fairfield police said the assault took place around 11:45 a.m., in one of the walking paths that lead from the beach to the parking lot. The suspect was seen walking west on the beach with two other black males minutes before the assault, police said. The victim came to the police department to report the crime later that day.

"The mere fact that somebody would commit an act like this in such a populated area is certainly a concern of ours, so the quicker we can get the individual in custody the better off we're all going to be," said Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara.

The suspect is described as a black male, about 19-years-old. He is said to be about 5'10" to 6 feet tall. Police said he was wearing a bright red t-shirt, zip-fly shorts and beige colored sandals.

Police say there is security at the beach, especially in the parking lot area, but they have stepped up patrols in response to this incident.

Police advise anyone with information regarding the assault or the identity of the suspect to call the Fairfield Police Detective Bureau at 203-254-4840 or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637).

Chief MacNamara said, "We know that there'll be people there with cellphones taking photos, enjoying the beach. So we're asking everybody during the time frame from say 11 o'clock to 1 o'clock, if they were at Jennings Beach, check their social media, check whether they have pictures and selfies and different thing that might be able to provide some information to us."
