HARTFORD – It’s that time of year again! Time to celebrate the end of summer and beginning of fall with carnivals, festivals, and fairs across the whole state.

The Harwinton Fair offers good old-fashioned fun for all! See the Pig Races, Antique Tractor Show, Rabbit Costume Contest, Oxen Draw and Civil War Displays. Enjoy a magic show and bluegrass music after visiting the barnyard animals. Stop by the Country Store for a memento of your special day!

Signifying the close of fair season, the Portland Fair gives enthusiasts one last chance to experience all the classic fair entertainment, food, exhibits, animals and activities for the year.

Apple Harvest Festival

Located at a bend of the Connecticut River, the Apple Harvest Festival and 5K Race has continually been ranked as one of the state’s most popular events, including Hartford Magazine’s #1 Best Annual Fesitval. It’s an all around experience, that new generations revisit year after year.

35th Annual Fine Arts and Crafts Festival

Roseland Cottage Museum
Roseland Cottage hosts one of the leading juried fine arts and crafts shows in New England, featuring 175 local artisans and their wares: jewelry, painting, printmaking, woodwork, pottery, clothing, metalwork, and much more. Enjoy live music, a food court, and first-floor tours of Roseland Cottage.

Stamford Museum & Nature Center
Watch an apple-cider making demonstration, try the hay bale climb, take a llama trek, and enjoy fun activities for the entire family. Other activities include antique farm tool demonstrations, animal meet ‘n’ greets, live music with Jay and Ray, face-painting, storytelling with Ms. Karen, and children’s crafts – including our new Kindness Rocks table.
The Fifth Connecticut Regiment Colonial Militia Re-enactors “return engagement” with members of the Regiment at the Heckscher Farm for an encampment and demonstrations throughout the weekend. Attendees are invited to take part in a marching drill, watch a musket demo, and find out more about life as a member of our Colonial Militia!
Feast on the delicious fare at an array of locally popular food trucks on the Meadow, or buy a fresh cider donut (or two) from the Food Stand. Cast your vote in a scarecrow contest, and wear a costume and participate in the costume parade each day. Apples for our popular slingshot at Bendel Pond will also be available for purchase, and the Museum Galleries will be open with the Illustrations of Imaginative Literature: The Korskak Collection exhibition.

Harvest Day Festival

Imagine Nation, A Museum Early Learning Center
Children are encouraged to come dressed as farmers, and be prepared to fill their senses with the smell, taste, touch, and sounds of the harvest season. Join us in celebration of autumn and meet farm animals from the Southington Regional Agriculture Program, including rabbits, chickens, cows, and a pony. Learn what the animals eat and how to care for them. We will explore a wide variety of hands-on activities both indoors and outdoors, including scarecrow building, pumpkin and gourd dissection, and “Chrysanthepom” making with the Bristol Garden Club. We’ll have live music from the CT Bristol Old Time Fiddlers from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. All activities are included with museum admission. Children under one and members are free.

Harvest Festival

Activities include historical demonstrations: like broom and rope making, open hearth cooking, and fleece spinning. Learn how to use Make & Break Engines and antique tools. There will be livestock encounters, enjoy a wagon ride through the pastures with a team of majestic Percherons (1 p.m.-3 p.m.); watch the sheep being shorn then help to “skirt” the fleece, preparing it for spinning. Learn how to become a beekeeper and watch industrious honeybees in the observation hive. Meet our dairy cows, enjoy their freshly pasteurized milk and churn fresh butter. Try your hand at harvest crafts: create a grapevine wreath with dried flowers from our gardens; decorate a pumpkin; roll a beeswax candle; make gourd creatures, and more old fashioned fun.
Special Guest, Master Falconer Brian Bradley, will join us from 2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. with his live birds of prey. Marvel as his falcons soar and dive over the pastures.

Fall Festival

4-H Education Center at Auerfarm
The 4-H Education Center at Auerfarm will host its Annual Fall Festival on the Farm. Adults and children alike will enjoy the Hartford Symphony Petting Zoo, live music, hay rides, pumpkin painting, games, bounce houses, Touch-A-Truck, contests, vendors, face painting, food trucks, scavenger hunts, and much more. Visitors will be able to explore the gardens, visit the animals, check out the apple orchard, or hike the trails on the 120-acre expanse.

Fairfield Harvest Market

The Green will be magically transformed into an outdoor, open-air shopping Market, full of vendors providing a huge array of different products, clothing, food and household items, to meet the interests of every shopper. Also, included this year, will be some vendors from the ever-popular, Fairfield Farmer’s Market.
In addition,a dog costume parade at 11 a.m., that marches down the sidewalks of Old Post Road, and winners will receive prizes (gift cards from the Natural Pet Outlet). There will be pet products and DJ Scott will be providing music.
Shoppers can find high-quality items, including specialty-themed food items, rustic furniture, plus a wide variety of retailers selling jewelry, beauty products, clothing, household items, and pet items, all ready to purchase on the spot.
To add to the attraction, there will also be well-known food trucks, offering the best variety of local foods for everyone to enjoy.
