STAMFORD-- A community vigil to stand against the violence and hatred demonstrated in Charlottesville, Virginia is being held in Stamford.
Dozens of neighbors came to Stamford Government Center to unite against hate. A rally formed outside the building with local and community leaders in attendance.
The group called for solidarity against hateful rhetoric and offered prayers for the victims of the tragedy in Charlottesville over the weekend.
Also in attendance, Governor Dannel Malloy, who had a sharp response to Trump's comments. "I thought the President was out of his mind. That's what I thought," said Malloy. "They were unhinged. He was unhinged…and he has done great damage to America's standing in the world."
Others who attended the rally said they felt compelled to do so to make their voices heard. Some brought children to teach them a valuable lesson.
"When you have that kind of moral equivocation from the President of the United States it's important to not only speak truth to power but, the only thing it takes for evil to perpetuate itself is for good people to say nothing," said Aaron Hull of Stamford.
More rallies and vigils are planned in the future.
