NEW LONDON — New London Police say they have arrested a man who stole a truck Wednesday afternoon, and dragged a woman who tried to stop him.

New London Fire Department Battalion Chief Ed Sargent said a 43-year-old woman was putting a table she just bought at Home Goods on her pickup truck at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday on 351 N. Frontage Rd.

As she was getting it onto the bed of the truck, Christian Guzman, 28, suddenly jumped into the driver’s seat and took off, according to officials. As the woman tried to prevent the theft of the truck, she was thrown to the ground and dragged a little ways before Guzman got away. She was taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for her injuries.

Around 9 p.m. that night, with the help of the Westchester County Department of Public Safety in New York, found the pick up truck after Guzman was reported to have been in an accident with a WCDPS vehicle.

New London Police say that Guzman has had previous contact with them when he was seeing a homeless shelter pass.

The investigation is ongoing, and the charges are pending.
