CANTERBURY — The budget battle and the education cuts are starting to hammer down on towns and cities across the state.
Now, Alan Beitman who is the Superintendent of Schools in Burlington, said that they are also facing struggles.
He said he’s running out of options with over $1.6 millions in cuts taking place already. He did say who your child has a teacher now will continue to be their teacher in June. Layoffs will include 18-25 non-certified positions, and they will not fill 9 open positions to help save on the $1.6 million they are losing.
He said if there are any more cuts over $1.6 million, then Burlington will need help from the town and Harwinton.
This comes as budget talks are set to continue Wednesday.
The Connecticut Education Association is also set to file a lawsuit against Governor Dannel Malloy’s executive order which saw cuts to education. They said the cuts violate state law.
It isn’t just schools that are taking a hit from the budget woes and cuts.
The Canterbury Public Library said it cut back their hours in September due to the ongoing budget stalemate. Their statement for doing so cites “financial constraints placed on the Town due to the State still not having an approved budget.”

Monday: Town Hall: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; Library: CLOSED
Tuesday & Wednesday: Town Hall: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm: Library: 9:00 am to 7:00 pm
Thursday: Town Hall 9:00 to 6:30 pm; Library 9:00 am to 8:00 pm
Friday: ALL CLOSED
Saturday: Library: 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
