NEW LONDON – New London Police have announced the arrest of a man accused in two sexual assaults in the city.
In collaboration with Waterford Police and the State’s Attorney’s office, police arrested Monte White, 34.
Police said an investigation and DNA evidence linked White to a sexual assault and home invasion on October 29th, and a similar sexual assault on November 29th.
Police said White was armed with a gun during both cases.
New London police said White’s original arrest was made in the area of 265 Jefferson Avenue, where police had been tracking him during their narcotics investigation. They said he drove a 2001 Mercedes Benz which was maroon, but recently was painted black.
Police are urging anyone with additional information about White and for any other victims to come forward.
“White has been known to frequent locations in New London, Waterford, and East Lyme Connecticut. We want to know if anybody in the community may have come across him or seen the car in either color or if there’s any other victims out there who have not come forward an report this to their local police,” New London Police Chief Peter Reichard said.
Police said the DNA evidence has also linked White to a sexual assault case in Torrington. Torrington Police told FOX61 that case is still open and active. They confirmed White is a person of interest, but that no arrest has been made.
White was arraigned on unrelated drug charges Tuesday morning and is being held on $750,000 bond.
“The New London Police Department, working with our partners in Waterford, the State Police, and State’s Attorney’s Office, take every incident that we have serious and we will go to the ends of the earth to solve these crimes,” Said New London Police Chief Peter Reichard.
