Tip leads New London police to mother and missing child

NEW LONDON —  Police  say a tip from concerned citizen led to the safe recovery of a child taken from a city hospital, and her mother may face criminal charges.

According to New London police, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital contacted them around 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14th to report a missing 3-year-old.  Hospital staff said the missing child, Zaniyah Bullette, was a patient and was taken by her biological mother, India Quinones. Police said the mother took the child despite a medical hold and not having parental custody of the child.

Silver Alert was issued for Bullette Wednesday night.

On Friday shortly after 10:30 p.m., someone tipped off police to a possible location. Officers went to 8 Bristol Street in New London, where they found the little girl and her mother. Zaniyah was returned to the hospital because of the original medical hold, and the Department of Children and Families took custody of the child. The Silver Alert was canceled, but police say the investigation is still active ‘with potential criminal charges pending’.
