NORTH HAVEN — A fundraiser has been planned to help nine Connecticut police officers injured in a barn explosion.

The fundraiser is scheduled for May 24 at the Stony Creek Brewery in Branford. Proceeds will benefit the East Haven, North Haven and Branford officers on the regional SWAT team who were hurt.

The unit responded to a North Haven home on May 2 when they received a call about a man barricaded in the house. A woman told police she had escaped after being held hostage for several days.

The explosion in the barn behind the house left the man dead. Authorities have not released his name.

East Haven police Lt. Joseph Murgo says several of the officers have “long roads to recovery.”
