SHELTON, Conn. — One person was hospitalized in Shelton Friday night after a pickup truck crashed into an apartment building in the hotel complex at 1001 Bridgeport Avenue, the Shelton Fire Department said in a Facebook post.
The incident happened around 6:10 p.m. when firefighters were alerted that an occupant was pinned in the vehicle.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that the staircase to the apartment units above was unusable, according to the post.
Rescue personnel used stabilization struts to reinforce the stairs, and once they were secured, a grip hoist was used to pull the vehicle from out under the stairs, the fire department said.
Once the vehicle was removed, firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to remove the vehicle’s doors and free the occupant, according to the post.
It took about 25 firefighters and around 45 minutes to free the individual.
Once the person was freed, EHAC brought them to a local trauma facility for evaluation, the fire department said.
The City Building Inspector arrived on scene and deemed the upper apartment units uninhabitable, according to the post.
