    ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico — A man accused of beating his girlfriend and threatening to kill her was jailed after an Amazon Echo — a voice-activated speaker device — automatically called 911, authorities said. “The unexpected use of this new technology to contact emergency services has possibly helped save a life,” Sheriff Manuel Gonzales III, of the Bernalillo County Sheriff Department, told FOX 61. “This amazing technology definitely helped save a mother and her child from a very violent situation.” The […]

  • Suspect accused of sexually assaulting 5-year-old in Norfolk

    NORFOLK — Police have arrested a Norfolk man after they said he sexually assaulted a young child. State police said the victim was just 5 years old. David Craighill, 26, is due in court Friday morning. Police said last week he sexually assaulted a child in Norfolk and he was arrested Thursday night. He’s expected to be arraigned in Bantam Superior court on charges including first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

  • Fire crews respond to hazmat situation at New Haven business

    NEW HAVEN — Fire fighters responded to a chemical incident at a business in New Haven Tuesday. The incident happened around 8:00 a.m. at Sargent Manufacturing company on Sargent Drive. That department tells FOX 61 one person’s arm was burned by sulfuric acid. The worker was handling about a gallon worth of the acid when the spilled occurred.   • Police identify victim killed in I-84 crash in Newtown

    NEWTOWN —  State police have released additional details regarding the fatal crash Tuesday morning. State police said Gerard Mauskapf, 64, of New York, was on I-84 eastbound at the exit 11 ramp, when he pulled over to the right shoulder on a curve. Police said Mauskapf was out of his car when Alan Vitti, 18, of Sandy Hook, was approaching Mauskapf’s location and was struck. Police said Mauskapf was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS.     NORWICH — A crash in Norwich sent three people to the hospital following a police pursuit. An officer attempted to pull over a Ford Focus on Main Street at 8 p.m. Sunday night, when the car took off, police said.     HARTFORD — Forbes is recognizing Connecticut companies as some of the best in the United States. Seventeen businesses headquartered in the state made the magazine’s list of “America’s Best Employers.” The local winners include big names in health care, education and manufacturing.
