A legendary baseball coach accused of abusing his players for years is stepping down.
Eastern Connecticut State University says Bill Holowaty announced his retirement to the team this afternoon. Holowaty was suspended Monday after a university investigation substantiated four of five charges of misconduct against him.
Former players told Fox CT they witnessed mental and physical abuse while playing for Holowaty, while other players stepped up to defend the 45-year coach.
Holowaty is the winningest coach in New England college baseball history.
