Sunshine returned today as high pressure influenced the weather with highs around 70 inland and 60 along the shore, leaving us mostly sunny mild days and clear cool nights (low clouds and fog could develop during the early morning hours along the shoreline) for the next seven to 10 days.
With the surface high off to our north and east, the low level winds will be from east and south keeping the shoreline a good 10 degrees cooler than inland areas. As the week moves along, some low clouds and fog may move in along the southeast coast each and every morning through the weekend.
Long-range computer guidance shows the block holding strong through the weekend and well into next week. One big problem with this year’s blocky pattern is the extreme dry conditions this April. Total amount of rainfall this month has been only 1.67 inches, more than two inches below normal for the month. Soil is very dry and if this pattern does not change within the next two weeks Connecticut could be facing a long hot dry summer.
However, one of our long-range computer models does show a change in the weather pattern by the second half of the May in that a strong cold front will move south out of central Canada and at the same time copious amount moisture to the south will merge across the Northeast with much needed soaking rains. Of course a lot can change but in this case one can only hope for soaking rains to avoid any drought conditions during the summer months.
