MIDDLETOWN – Two Wesleyan University public safety officers have been fired and are being investigated by police for allegedly viewing and possibly recording a female student in her residence, the university said on Tuesday.

The school recently received a report of alleged “illicit activity” on the part of the two officers, a statement from university officials said.

Both were immediately fired and an investigation by police is underway, according to the statement.

Calls to Middletown police were not returned immediately on Tuesday evening.

“The violation of a student’s private life by those charged with protecting our students is an intolerable breach of trust,” the university statement said.

Wesleyan’s Office of Public Safety would not comment on the investigation.
