Months after Superstorm Sandy hit the shoreline of the East Coast, there’s still much repair work to be done. Including repairs to the classic carousel at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven.

For the last six months, the parks department worked diligently to make sure the carousel would be ready for the summer after Sandy.

One year after Irene stormed into Lighthouse Point Park, the city had to prepare for Sandy, protecting  a 100-year-old carousel that is treasured during the summer by packing up the horses, organ and mechanics.

Thanks to early preparation the carousel was spared. And while the building sustained some damage during Sandy, New Haven’s parks department has now revived this summertime favorite just in time for Memorial Day.

Lighthouse Point Park is open until November 1.
