MANCHESTER – An Elizabeth Drive man shot himself in the foot with a rifle Friday, and police say they are working to determine why.

The incident occurred at around 11 p.m. when police received a call from a man who reported being shot by another man armed with an AR-15 rifle at a home at 15 Elizabeth Drive, according to police spokesman Capt. Christopher Davis. Responding officers established a perimeter around the property and were quickly able to get the suspect to leave.

Officers checked the home for additional victims but determined that “the only victim was the suspect himself,” Davis said in a news release.

The 57-year old man, who has not been identified by police, suffered an apparent gunshot wound to one of his feet, Davis said. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and police said no one else was injured in the incident.

Davis said police are continuing to investigate how and why the man shot himself with the rifle.
