A local man was arrested on Saturday and charged with hitting and fatally injuring two pedestrians who were walking in the road with their daughters after a massive snowstorm that left sidewalks blocked.

James Dorso II, 31, turned himself in on Saturday afternoon, according to news release from police. He was charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter and reckless driving. He was released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Milford Superior Court on May 28.

The accident happened on Feb. 11, shortly after a blizzard dumped two feet or more of snow across the state.

According to police, Dorso hit Kevin Tanski, 53, and his wife Brenda Tanski, 51, both of Milford, as they walked in Bridgeport Avenue near Cowles Street. Both adults died from their injuries a few days later, police said.

Two daughters were with the parents. One, Jenny Tanski, was injured, and the other, Courtney, was not hurt.

According to an account of the accident published shortly after it happened, the Tanskis were walking in the road because sidewalks were still clogged with snow.
