NEW HAVEN – Graffiti found in a Yale University bathroom threatened arson at the Joseph Slifka Center for Jewish Life later this month, university officials said Tuesday.

The threat was found in a bathroom at the Sterling Chemistry Lab at 225 Prospect Street on April 22, and appeared to threaten arson at the Slifka Center on May 16, according to a release from the university’s vice president Linda Koch Lorimer.

The threat is being investigated by the university, and the FBI and New Haven police were contacted, Lorimer said in the release. Security in the area around the Center has been increased, she said.

“This is a very disturbing incident for a community such as ours, in which tolerance of all races, religions and points of view is a fundamental value,” Lorimer said in the release. “A threat to any community within our University is a threat to us all.”

Anyone with information on the graffiti is asked to call university police at 203-432-4000 or text them anonymously at 67283 with a message beginning “Yale Tip.”

Lorimer said that based on current information there is no reason for to avoid visiting the Slifka Center or the Wall Street area.
