It’s been 3,178 days since Jan and Bill Smolinski have seen their son, but their commitment to his whereabouts remains unwavering.

“I work on this every single day, he’s my son,” Jan Smolinski said.

Billy Smolinski Jr. went missing from Waterbury on Aug. 24, 2004 at the age of 31. Police believe he was murdered and his body buried somewhere.

But the news on Monday that three women in the Cleveland area were found after they were missing for almost a decade has given Billy’s family some hope.

“There’s a lot of clues that he won’t be back, but then again you have that little hope that maybe one day you will be able to talk to him again,” Jan Smolinski said.

A clock on a website dedicated to Billy’s disappearance has been running since he went missing, but his parents hope it comes to a stop.

“The clock is ticking every day and we do need to bring him home, get answers, and have a place for him to rest,” Jan Smolinski said.
