MERIDEN – A small aircraft flipped over after landing Tuesday afternoon at Meriden-Markham Airport, the airport administrator said.

The accident occurred about 1:50 p.m. Witnesses said the aircraft flipped over two or three times before coming to rest upside down. The aircraft went out of control and veered off the runway into the grass, airport Administrator Jeff Price said.

Two pilots ran to the aid of the aircraft pilot, who was dazed and had a few cuts, but appeared to be OK, Price said. The pilot was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury for treatment.

The pilot was the only person aboard the aircraft, described as a Zenith Zodiak.

Police and firefighters were at the scene and the Federal Aviation Administration was notified, Price said.
