A Madison hair salon was open for business Monday for the sole purpose of helping a hair stylist and her daughter injured in the Boston Marathon bombings. The W Salon took part in a regional fundraiser called Shear Unity.

Typically Mondays are a day off at W Salon, but this week the business held a “cut-a-thon” fundraiser to raise money for Massachusetts hair stylist Celeste Corcoran and her 17-year-old daughter Sydney. The two were running in the Boston Marathon together when explosions rocked the race.

Sydney suffered severe injuries to her legs and Celeste lost both legs in the bombings. Her ability to stand as a hairdresser is gone.

One hundred percent of the proceeds on Monday went to a fund set up for the Corcoran women at Enterprise Bank. Jennifer Despres, a hairdresser in Boston with a shop right near the bombing site, came to Madison Monday to take part in the event.
