Hartford City Council members are expected to call for an audit of city-issued credit cards. This comes after an in depth review into hundreds of purchases that found city officials, including Mayor Pedro Segarra and his chief of staff, have spent tens of thousands of dollars on dining and travel in the past few years.

Later today, city council members will introduce legislation that will call for an audit. According to a report by the Hartford Courant, Mayor Segarra spent over six thousand dollars on meals and his chief of staff spent over nine thousand dollars on meals, which included a $700 dollar tab at Max Downtown on New Year’s Eve for an eight person dinner.

The main goal  of tonight’s meeting is to discuss that the use of public funds for private gain is restricted by city codes and violates the code of ethics.
