After almost three seasons as the Connecticut Whale, Hartford’s American Hockey League franchise is returning to its old name.

The team will officially announce Tuesday that it will be renamed the Hartford Wolf Pack for the 2013-14 season. The announcement will come from franchise owner Madison Square Garden and Global Spectrum, which is taking over management of the XL Center and the day-to-day operation of the team.

The franchise was given the Wolf Pack name when it moved from Binghamton to Hartford in 1997 and maintained the name until early in the 2010-11 season. Under management of Whalers Sports & Entertainment, the team was rebranded as the Connecticut Whale and donned colors of the former NHL Whalers.
