The Connecticut Tennis Center in New Haven was full of kids Monday afternoon as free tennis lessons were offered to Elm City children.
A day that focuses on fitness this year added a message of mentoring. There were 10 mentoring programs on hand to help the kids learn, including Big Brothers and Sisters and the Boost! Mentoring program.
“There’s a couple of thousand kids in New Haven that still need a mentor, we only have about a couple hundred now,” said Diane Hubbard of the Governor’s Prevention Partnership.
American teen Taylor Townsend is the top-ranked junior in the world and just recently turned pro. She was on hand in New Haven Monday to help out.
“It’s just so much fun that I can give a bit of my time to kids and get them into the sport and get them active and stuff,” she said.
