A 23-year-old Bridgeport woman was arrested Monday in connection with a car crash in New York that claimed the life of a woman from New Haven.

Ayisha Dobson was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima that crashed on the Williamsburg Bridge around 4 a.m. Monday, police said.

Dobson, of Robert Street,Bridgeport, was charged with manslaughter, second-degree vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

The victim was identified as 21-year-old Janice Brown of Hubinger Street, New Haven. She was among four passengers in the vehicle that Dobson was driving.

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Dobson and the other three passengers were in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, police said.

Police say Dobson was speeding eastbound on the Williamsburg Bridge and overcompensated for a turn near the BrooklynQueens Expressway interchange. The vehicle struck a metal divider on the passenger side, causing Brown to be thrown from the vehicle and onto the roadway, police said.

The car spun and entered oncoming traffic before coming to a stop facing west. Dobson felt it was unsafe to remain in the road, exited at Roebling Street and parked.
