Nurseries across Connecticut were preparing for cold temperatures Monday night. Lows will be in the mid-30s and a frost advisory has been issued.

Even though it may remain above freezing, the dew point will stay below 32 degrees and that allows for frost to form on many plants and other surfaces.

“Where you can, you bring them inside, where you can’t, you use blankets,” said Michael Milane, owner of Milane Nurseries in Cromwell.

Plastic blankets should not be used.

According to the National Weather Service, a frost advisory is issued when frost is expected to develop during the growing season. Areas of frost have the potential to damage some crops and sensitive vegetation.
