Mark K. Shriver, senior vice president of Save the Children, and Lena Rodriguez, president and CEO of the Community Renewal Team talk about the CRT’s 50th Anniversary Gala, held last evening at the Hartford Marriott Downtown. Shriver, the son of Sargent Shriver, who served in the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, was the keynote speaker at the gala.

The Community Renewal Team began as a grassroots movement with volunteers that went door-to-door trying to find out what people needed and helped alleviate poverty during the trying times of the 1960s in the dense urban environment of Hartford. Now they serve more than 130,000 individuals and families per year by providing people the tools and community resources to become self-reliant.
