A comprehensive early childhood mental health proposal was unveiled in Hartford on Monday, a proposal that was brought up following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. There’s a good chance it will pass, if not before the end of the legislative session, by the end of the year.

Members of the General Assembly’s Children’s Committee say they have overwhelming House and Senate support of the bill that would require public and private agencies that receive state funding to adopt more early identification and intervention techniques at early ages.

Two Sandy Hook School parents were present Monday at an event to support the proposal.

“The tragedy at Newtown… it may have brought this issu to the forefront, but the reality is there are 168 other towns here in Connecticut,” said Nelba Marquez-Greene, whose daughter Ana was killed in the Newtown shooting.“All have residents who deserve quality care and treatment for their children and families.”
