BRIDGEPORT – Tensions erupted Monday after the arraignment of the man charged with kidnapping and killing Eastern Connecticut State University student Alyssiah Wiley.

A supporter of the victim taunted Jermaine Richards’ family members, suggesting to them that Richards would be repeatedly raped in prison. State troopers and marshals kept family members of the victim and suspect apart. Tempers flared briefly in the parking lot and street.

Richards, 30 of Bridgeport, is being held on a $1 million bond. His lawyer, John Gulash, argued in front of Superior Court Judge Earl B. Richards III for a lower bond, saying Richards is employed, had a stable residence for 21 years and completed 14 years of school.
