The Stamford Train Station is anticipating large crowds as it runs regular service to New York City, and because of that, commuters are likely to drive to the station to catch a train. The Department of Transportation said to expect a long commute and allow plenty of extra time to get to work as major road delays are expected.

The concern comes after the Metro North train derailment Friday. Gov. Dannel Malloy and state transportation spokespersons warned commuters to expect the worst during the Monday morning commute and beyond.

In the meantime, the D.O.T. has arranged shuttle service to help ease the congestion between New Haven and Bridgeport. Express bus service has also been made available from Bridgeport to Stamford.

For those heading to Stamford, the state has suggested that commuters carpool or telecommute.
