Dave Bike, a beloved member of the Connecticut college athletics community, has decided to end his storied 35-year career as coach of the Sacred Heart men’s basketball team, handing the reins of the program to coach-in-waiting Anthony Latina.

Latina, a Hartford native and Bike’s assistant for the past eight years, will be introduced as the program’s next coach during a press conference scheduled for May 28 on the SHU campus.

Reached Tuesday, Latina would not comment. Bike could not be reached. A Sacred Heart spokesman confirmed the news but said no one from the university would comment before the press conference.
