SOUTH WINDSOR – A fire in a nearby building forced a family to flee their house.

No one was injured in the early-morning fire at 8 Collins Lane, which took firefighters about a half hour to extinguish, said Brian Peck, assistant fire chief.

Neighbors called 911 about 2:45 a.m. Friday. Firefighters could see the glow in the sky from the fire station, Peck said.

The fire burned in a structure that was being used as a garage. Police helped get the three or four residents out of the house, he said.

While the fire never reached the inside of the house, there is damage to the back side of the home.

Fire officials are investigating.
