The officer involved was not injured but also was taken to Danbury Hospital, where he was treated and released, Vance said. His name also was withheld.

Ridgefield police responded to 423 Ridgebury Road around 5:15 p.m. after a report of a possible domestic dispute, Vance said.

The officers confronted a man who was armed with a handgun and standing in the yard of the residence, Vance said. The officers ordered the man to put down his weapon, but he refused, and instead raised his weapon toward the officers, Vance said. State police Major Crimes Squad detectives are investigating, Vance said.

The office of the Chief State’s Medical Examiner will conduct an examination to determine the manner and cause of death of the man, Vance said.
